The Interchanges between the New and Old School in Modern Hunan Politics and Culture

Abstract:In the Reform Movement of 1898,the struggles between the new and old schools were not as clearly see as declared，instead they reflected a situation of interchanges between the new and old schools. The phenomenon has been reflected on the attitude towards the thoughts of Guo Songtao and Kang Youwei, and also on Hunan’s new policies encouraging learning from western industry and business.
