| A Psychological Interpretation of American Totalitarianism: Taking The Naked and the Dead as an Example |

| Abstract:The Naked and the Dead has attracted literary criticisms on its exposition and critique on American totalitarianism. New Psychoanalytic school holds that totalitarianism shares the same psychological foundation with fascism: authoritarian personality, whose mechanism is sadomasochistic impulsion in personality. It provides a theoretical basis for a in-depth dissection on the complex and contradictory collective personality in the novel and explains the cause of “robots” in American Armies. The psychological interpretation of American totalitarianism in The Naked and the Dead helps to dig into the deep source of modern war and slaughter, from which some cautions can be drawn. |
