| On the Translation of the Yi Jing by James Legge |

| Abstract:The translation of the Yi Jing by James Legge, the British missionary, in the end of the nineteenth century had great influence for the communication of Chinese culture to the western world. Even today his translation is still popular and is considered as the model of the Yi Jing translation by the western Sinologists. This thesis aims at the discussion of the ideas, the advantages, and also the shortcoming and mistakes of his translation, so as to benefit the improvement of translation and communication of the Yi Jing in the new century. |
