| The Influence of the National Complex on August Wilson’s Dramatic Creation |

| Abstract:August Wilson is a significant figure in the modern process of American drama. He expresses the identity of African Americans by ingeniously incorporating four elements as history, region, music and religion into his cycle plays. Through comprehensive analysis of this dramatist's plays, we can easily find that these elements reflect a deep national complex of African Americans and simultaneously they highlight the motif of those plays. This national complex is either Wilson's creation impetus or a spiritual benchmark which helps American blacks position themselves after they have experienced the conflicts between both whites and blacks' cultures. |
