| Continuity of the Yongjia Learning in Modern China——A Discussion about the Contribution of the Song Shu and Sun Family to the Development of Women's Education in the Late Qing Dynasty |

| Abstract:The Sun family of Ruian stroved to revitalize the Yongjia learning during the late Qing. The late Qing saw a resurgence in female culture that included several generations of scholars from the Sun family. They excavated the meaning of the application of traditional learning to fit the present and added to the essence of Western learning which at the time was rapidly disseminating among certain East Asian literati. This study aims to highlight that the Sun women played a vital role in forming modern women’s culture in China. It was through the publication of many works and several generations of the Sun family who promoted and practiced equal rights of couples, child education, by praising eminent or talented women, calling for the abolition of foot binding and assisting women in gaining an education that they vividly embodied the Yongjia School in Modern China. |
